Niall MacCrann
MA Fine Art and MA Printmaking
I’m a Cambridge-based painter and printmaker. I’ve been developing a professional practice as an artist since 2019, having most of my working life as a research cosmologist. I exhibit regularly at Cambridge Contemproray Art gallery, and this year have had prints selected for Woolwhich Contemporary Print Fair, and The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers international print exhtibition.
My painting, drawing and printmaking practice floats around themes such as contactless living and our relationships with our bodies. I begin with observational drawing, often in streets or eateries, on trains or ferries. I am a life drawing addict, attending two sessions a week at Cambridge School of Art. All of these figurative givens feed into my explorative and symbolistic works in oil paint, a range of printmaking techniques and moving image. I’ve recently focused on etching, where I wipe, scratch, scour, burnish, dab and splatter to create human figures, fruits and other things.
