Isobel Johnson

Illustration - BA (Hons)

Hi, I’m Isobel and I create colourful work for children. I draw a lot of my inspiration from the natural world and am interested in inspiring love and respect for nature within children from an early age, by capturing the joy and beauty of the plants and animals around us. I like to make work using a combination of physical collage making and digital techniques and have enjoyed applying this way of working to a broad range of outcomes including children’s book illustration, pattern design and book covers.

One project I particularly enjoyed was my nature inspired pattern design project, where I used my experiences of the natural world to create an intricate pattern using a series of paper cut plants and animals. I loved combining different colours and experimenting with applying my pattern to different products such as notebook covers and pillows, and this is something I would love to do professionally.

Some highlights of my time at Cambridge School of Art include taking part in the Sustainability Art prize exhibition, being shortlisted for the Cambridge Folk Festival t-shirt competition and working with the Global Sustainability institute for a summer internship.
