Susanna Greenard
Illustration - BA (Hons)
I am a Norfolk-based illustrator inspired by nostalgia and pop culture. My work is focused around my interest in the culture of the past, and inspired by the media I consume, whether this be tv and film, or fashion and music. I aim to make my work look fun through the characters' dynamic poses, movement, and array of colours. I work digitally using texture from digital brushes and scanned media to enhance my images. I like to work on a variety of briefs such as book covers, posters, and book illustration, but my favourite projects are self-initiated.
Recently I created a leporello based on retrofuturism of the 60’s and 70’s. This was inspired by how people in the 60’s and 70’s envisioned the future space age to be. I used this a basis to create characters and backgrounds that would fit into their vision. This project forced me to work without text and to make strong stand-alone narrative images.
Throughout my studies I have been challenged to push my limits, before joining this course I had no experience working digitally and didn’t know how to successfully use colour. As the course has progressed, I have become more confident with working in ways that excite me and express my interests the best.
