Adam Howe

Audio and Music Technology - BSc (Hons)

Adam’s ambition is to pursue a career in acoustic consultancy as it combines his interest in acoustics and sound science with the opportunity to positively affect businesses, communities, and the environment.

Adam started studying Audio and Music Technology at Anglia Ruskin University due to his passion for playing and recording music. However, after becoming more aware of the different aspects of audio, he quickly developed a very keen interest in Acoustics and the science of sound.

For his final major project, Adam combined his interests in acoustics and music to look into the construction and development of acoustic stringed instruments, such as the guitar and violin. This involved looking back as far as the 17th century to analyse what changes the luthiers made to their instruments to craft an instrument that was acoustically superior to all others. Furthermore, Adam conducted different experiments comparing and analysing four acoustic guitars each with different characteristics such as wood type, sound-hole style, and sound-board construction.

Outside of University, Adam repairs modifies and builds guitars. Since 2017, he has painted and built two custom electric guitars.
