My name is Jenny Grant and I am graduating this year from Drama at Anglia Ruskin University. Over the years, my passion and knowledge for theatre has vastly expanded and has provided me a wide range of interests in the industry. I have had the honour of performing incredible roles such as Katurian in The Pillowman, Miss Hannigan in Annie, Mrs Warren in Mrs Warren’s Profession and Mag in Lovers.

My work with theatre in education company 1616 over the past two summers is an experience I take great pride in. Here, I played the roles of Puck, Starveling and Egeus in Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in an ensemble of six actors. We toured the play to several schools in the UK, and conducted live workshops with the children afterwards, providing them the opportunity to express themselves and become more involved with the play and the actors.

In addition to my acting and theatre in education experience, performing and assisting in technical roles is another interest of mine. This includes my role as stage manager in ARU’S production of R.U.R, follow spot operator in the Churchill Theatre’s production of The Wizard of Oz, and sound operator in George Heriot School’s production of Madea. These were all extremely rewarding experiences, as I knew being a part of the stage crew was a vital and pivotal contribution in creating amazing live pieces of theatre for audiences to enjoy.

Co-directing and producing The Phlebotomist was an incredible and unforgettable experience, as not only are the issues addressed extremely relevant, the piece is also set in a dystopian future that doesn’t seem too far out of reach, which is what we want to communicate to audiences. The performance makes you wonder if this new world would make you act differently, and if so, how would your behaviour and actions impact not only yourself but also others?
