Alexander Unsworth
MA Fine Art
Alexander's practice explores the visualisation of experience through painting, specifically in relation to pugilism and the investigation into the physicality of boxing and painting; understanding the act of painting and its relationship to boxing experience through the context of the body as a “living paintbrush” (Y. Klein. 1963).
His practice investigates the links that can be drawn from the gesture and performance of painting and that of boxing, using the figure as the method of communication between experience and viewer. This exploration is supported by the structure of photography, videography, collage and ultimately painting. Underpinning the use of media and addressing physical imagery involves the key concept of immersion and embodiment of subject matter through his own physical body and psychological adoption of pugilism.
All outcomes displayed are created with: Acrylic, Charcoal, Graphite, Vaseline on Canvas.
