Megan Johnson was born in South England and raised in Northern Ireland with a passion for all things creative. Book loving, cycling enthusiast - avid painter.
Her practice examines the language of painting (oil on canvas) through the use of geometric forms and painterly gestures. She accomplishes this by taping off hard edges of bare canvas, creating a consolidated, precise space within the composition. The fluidity of the medium helps to create a distinct visual language through non-figurative brush strokes.
The geometric forms relate to the architecture she sees in her everyday life. They form the basis of her work, as she builds and removes layers of paint to create free gestural movements on its surface. Her work explores control and chance, along with the interaction of the canvas with the flexibility of the oil paint, becoming united.
