Exit 1 and Exit 11 are a response to narratives that surround the delicate subject of mental health. Using a transfer process, which mimics Photoshop techniques, layer upon layer of images were transferred to a wooden panel until the original picture became unrecognisable and eventually, lost. On the surface, a pocket of light remained, a window serving as a breathing space, or even a potential exit point for the viewer, from this dense and inaccessible space.
Accompanying these works is a video of a performance piece, a physical improvisation that responds to the lockdowns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. The corner, a safe place. The artworks, mimicking windows looking out towards nature. The artwork represents being trapped, but grounded and safe.
