Ugne Jurgaityte

Film and Television Production - BA (Hons)

I am an aspiring film director, working with short dramas and documentaries. Most of my work explores the topics of social injustice and philosophical dilemmas.

I am involved with multiple different organisations working closely with film and other media platforms. My work history includes BBC Look East, Watersprite Film Festival, Cambridge Film Festival and StoryLab Research Institute.

Born and raised in Lithuania, I bring elements of my culture into my work. My major project Roots, based on Ukrainian/Lithuanian novelist Jaroslav Melnik’s story Roots (2009), explores the topics of grief and loss in a troublesome environment.

"Roots", a psychological short drama, directed by Ugne Jurgaityte for the major project, unravels the topics of grief, mother and daughter connection and the growth of a young woman. After living her whole life on an isolated farm, a girl has to suddenly become a woman when she is faced with the task of burying her own mother.

"In the Moment", a 30 second commercial shot for Kodak NAHEMI Competition. It focuses on the importance of mental health and well-being among military veterans. Shot on 16mm in collaboration with Veterans & Families Institute for Military Social Research Institute, Anglia Ruskin University.

"Blackout", a micro-short documentary, narrated by multiple languages, discusses the safety of women worldwide. Produced and directed by Ugne Jurgaityte, animation by Ruta Stalmokaite.

"Death and Chocolate" (and excerpt from "The Book Thief", 2005) is a monologue directed by Ugne and shot by Agata Kazmierczak. Performed by Filipa Fróis.
