Georgia Light

Illustration - BA (Hons)

Georgia Light is a third year illustration student who works in Procreate as well as using traditional sketching media such as graphite and biro. Within her work she focuses on topics surrounding philosophy, pattern design and how art and music can be interlinked.

Her final major project encompasses a hand-bound book of artwork that illustrates the writings of the contemporary philosopher Alan Watts, a fabric pattern zine, and an A1 graphite dreamscape illustration. For the Watts book she has taken inspiration from the natural world and psychedelia, with a particular focus on colour and atmosphere, with the aim to communicate not just the topic, but the emotions of the text behind it. The purpose of this project is to bring the teachings of Alan Watts to a new audience, hoping to spark an interest in modern philosophy.

Illustrators that she takes influence from include Shaun Tan, Felix Colgrove and Chris Riddell. She also finds inspiration in musical artists such as Fever the Ghost, Glass Animals and 070 Shake.

Her career goal is to work as a freelance illustrator and to train in psychotherapy, following her belief that art should have a more recognised role in therapy and rehabilitation.
