MA Children's Book Illustration

I trained in illustration at Brighton Polytechnic and the Royal College of Art. On leaving college I spent about 10 years working mostly as an editorial illustrator. In addition I worked with a friend devising and running art workshops in museums and galleries. We spent many happy years at the Science Museum in London translating scientific exhibitions into drop-in family activities. I still work in schools and museums, currently using clay modelling with primary school children.

In my books, I love using silkscreen printmaking, limiting and overlaying colours. I also transfer this process digitally, making artwork in black and layering colour in photoshop. I then draw in pencil on top. Stories often begin with characters and relationships and I am a huge fan of Arnold Lobel’s Frog and Toad series.

I love all ages of children’s books, from board books to illustrated fiction and my ambition is to make books for every age group.
