MA Fine Art and MA Printmaking

My fine art practice deals with the forces of humankind and nature and how they shape the landscape and the world today.

My work is inspired by human traces and patterns of history and geology left on the landscape. Places exist on a traditional horizontal axis, they are connected to other places through movement, and on a vertical axis of rootedness and belonging, through dwelling and buildings. I use aerial viewpoints, close-up fragments, architectural forms and historical narrative.

I am interested in the relationship between photography and painting and how these can layer personal memory and association with place. My work looks at how fleeting moments and partially hidden memories can point to meaning and mystery and evoke landscape in the mind’s eye.

I usually work in series using walking and experiment with photography, sketching and painting to develop a sense of place.
