Kai Wissler
Film and Television Production - BA (Hons)
Originally from the idyllic black forest in Germany, Kai Wissler relocated to the UK in 2020 to study Film &TV Production in Cambridge.
He has since written and produced numerous short films, including "Therapy", commissioned by the Shakespeare Globe in 2022, and winner of Best Comedy at this year's RTS East Student Awards. Other credits include the family drama 'Bereaved' and his directorial debut with the LGBTQ short film 'Wary'.
Wissler favours character-driven narratives in his writing and has credited the likes of Amy Sherman-Palladino (The Marvellous Mrs Maisel, Gilmore Girls) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Killing Eve) as some of his biggest influences. Many of his stories are satirical commentaries on the winners and victims of an ever-prevailing societal class system — peer pressure, class warfare and the succumbing to societal ideals at the forefront of his themes.
Wissler generally aims for a blend of black comedy and tragic drama to disarm his audience with humour before punching them in the gut with the profoundly emotional connotations of his character's resurfacing traumas. He loves all things TV, film, and theatre, is pursuing a career in writing for television, and aspires to become a showrunner.
