Sam Dawkes

Illustration - BA (Hons)

My name is Sam Dawkes, I am an illustrator based in St. Neots, Cambridgeshire.

Since beginning my degree, I have explored a wide range of mediums; my strongest areas include 3D modelling, collage, and graphic design. These combined gives me control over the compositions of my designs, when exploring my finished outcomes.

Alot of my work is inspired by music. As an avid music listener, it's constantly influencing my designs.

For the main body of work, I have used CDs to create a 3D model as the subject of a 7” single. Following my brief of choosing a random song, my project is based on ‘Laputa’ by Pachinko. After researching the album, I discovered that it had gone through a history of being abandoned and left to decay. When it was next found years later, it had a broken and warped sound to it. This sparked the idea for me to use physically warped CDs, which I felt would fit perfectly with my 3D modelling.
