Sonya Mead
Illustration and Animation - BA (Hons)
My name is Sonya Mead, an illustrator and animator whose passion is to tell stories that bring educated topics as well as bring the imagination to life. I take lots of inspiration from my part time job as a Veterinary Care Assistant, where I have helped nurse animals back to health and get to bring their unique stories and characteristics to life through the world of illustration and animation.
I’m really interested in the way animation combined with modern technology can evolve and bring the typical generic picture book to life. On top of this I have a love for Animal welfare and hope to tell more stories linked to this.
Through my studies at Cambridge School of Art I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with a varied selection of external companies/charities such as Curveball Media, Cambridge Community Arts and Blue Cross. I aspire to collaborate with companies and charities in future to grow and gain new experiences.
My graduation project "An End of a Tail" is a story which touches on the topic of pet bereavement. It connects to the audience through pet ownership and through memories to which pet owners can relate to make them reminisce and feel less alone. I also wanted it to be a conversation starter for parents and careers to use, to help guide their children through loss. I have been fortunate enough to collaborate with Blue Cross’s Pet Bereavement Team throughout this project, which has been a true blessing.
