Francesca Barosi

Performing Arts - BA (Hons)

My name is Francesca Barosi. I am a third-year student in Performing Arts at Anglia Ruskin University.  The current year of 2020-2021 has been particularly challenging and inspiring on a personal level.

The academic opportunity to create a video project for the first time turned out to be  an interesting and curious experience. Through it, I aimed to convey my growth as an artist and as an individual during these unprecedented times. The creative video performance features me dancing in a dynamic and modern dance style. I could explore several feelings and emotions by interacting with different natural environments around me. The dance was also accompanied by a specific song that served as a soundtrack for my emotions. The purpose of the video was to delve into the deepest emotions and thoughts felt at that moment. I could experience this in two ways: first, by endeavouring to externalize my feelings authentically; second, by paying attention to the creative stimuli that nature conveyed to me.

I have been inspired by the remarkable German choreographer Pina Bausch, who based her teaching approach of dance on emotions and state of mood of dancers. Furthermore, my research in the field of somatic dance and in the phenomenology of movement focused on body-mind integrity has consolidated my work.  Particularly my five years of life experience away from my home country helped me to enhance my personal development. Then, observing  the external reality stimulated me to look into myself, ultimately enabling me to better understand my inner being.
