MA Fine Art

I am a multimedia artist whose current practice is focusing on ceramics to explore the notion of the ‘imperfect’. I am influenced by the Japanese Zen principles of Wabi Sabi, ‘…an intuitive appreciation of a transient beauty in the physical world that reflects the irreversible flow of life in the spiritual world…’, and the golden repair process of Kintsugi. My developmental works have explored repairing broken vessels and textured glazes to reflect decay and nature.

For my final series of works titled ‘Embrace’ I used these influences to create small, inlay decorated ceramic forms and gold to draw attention to the natural imperfections within my works, asking the viewer to reflect on the beauty and value that can be found within the imperfect nature of the works and of ourselves.
