MA Children's Book Illustration

Hello, I’m Emma Chinnery, an author/ illustrator living in the UK.

I have completed the MA Children’s Book Illustration course at Cambridge School of Art. During the course, I created a chapter book and three picturebooks including The Light Garden which was selected as a Finalist in the Bologna Illustrator’s Exhibition 2021 and as Highly Commended in the Macmillan Prize for Illustration 2021.

I have written and illustrated educational non-fiction books for children in collaboration with scientists and created graphic novels for the online magazine, Aces Weekly. Alongside the MA, I worked for four years as an in-house Graphic Artist for Whole Foods Market.

I work in dip pen and pencil which allow me to create free and energetic drawings. I combine this with watercolour’s natural effects to capture the beauty and mystery in natural environments. I love to take my sketchbook outside and notice the unique ways people act and try to capture this in my illustration.

In my spare time I love to go on long walks in nature and read books in the garden.
