Emily Brooks
MA Children's Book Illustration
Emily Brooks is a Suffolk-based illustrator and picturebook maker. Whilst she loves drawing in museums, hiding in libraries, hoarding paper and lunchtime, Emily’s first love is storytelling.
After graduating from University of Brighton with a BA Illustration, she narrowed her interests to picturebooks at Anglia Ruskin University, establishing her visual language and pinpointing her audience.
Inspired by her observational drawings and memories, her stories portray everyday life through the perspective of quietly extraordinary characters. Ranging from Rex - the timid boy turned exuberant dinosaur enthusiast of Dino Boy; to Ada - champion silly face puller of the world in The Silliest Face.
Emily works mainly traditionally in gouache and pencil, with some digital techniques thrown in for good measure. Favouring dynamic compositions and bold colour choices, Emily’s work aims to communicate warmth and humour in a visually playful approach.
