Weronika Tomaszewska

Film and Television Production - BA (Hons)

My name is Weronika Tomaszewska and I am an independent writer and film director. Originally from Warsaw, Poland, I moved to the United Kingdom in 2018 to study Film and Television Production at Anglia Ruskin University and further develop myself as an artist.

I think that representation on screen is incredibly important which translates into my protagonists primarily being women. I explore themes of female power, independence and femininity. My work is focused on internal struggles and emotions. I like my viewers to feel like they are in the moment with the characters and therefore I tend to portray the world in my films as it is – natural, raw and intense.

Between January 2020 and April 2021, I worked on a commission for The Globe theatre titled Mother Nature’s Vengeance. This experimental piece inspired by William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar looks at climate change and our ignorance as a species that contributes to that process every day. Other films I have directed were shortlisted for festivals like FLOW Festival in Miami, London Lift-Off Film Festival and my documentary short Bad Habits was shown at the Ruskin Gallery as a part of Storytelling in the 4th Industrial Revolution exhibition curated by StoryLab.
