Ruthie Gibbs
Illustration - BA (Hons)
Ruthie came to love picture books as a young child, as she struggled to read at the same rate as her peers, and they have since inspired and sparked her love of narratives. She works mostly by hand, using paint and pencils to build tone and texture. She is very sensitive to both colour and texture, as she feels these elements add to creating a whole world in a picture, and thinks that this can sometimes be lost when creating solely digitually.
She is interested in the relationship between characters and a sense of place in a narrative, and has fought hard to make this work well in her Final Major Project. Observational drawing has fed massively into all her work and life drawing and people-watching inspire her greatly. Her strong imagination and playfulness mean she is able to come up with multiple ideas for a project.
