Willow Kirkby
Fine Art - BA (Hons)
Willow's multi-media practice explores systems, text and advertising, along with society as whole and ‘Relational Aesthetics’. Her interest in advertising and political mediums has led to a use of projection, collage and posters, with most of her work containing text. The imagery used connects the colour and form within photographs and helps create an emotive relationship to language. The text in her work will usually have a level of ambiguity, with multiple interpretations inciting a multifaceted meaning, and engaging the viewer in a universal way.
Aspects of modern society influence her work, for example the current trend for an excess of surveys. She is fascinated by the response of a wider audience and the public in general, which often results in questionnaires that ask for opinions, or short texts which resonate with current events.
