Portuguese artist Mara Soares practice explores drawing, printmaking, process and materiality. Built upon traditional printmaking techniques. Mara challenges the preconception of print media in a contemporary way, through exploring 3D construction and an immersive approach to installation. The imagery and content of her work directly critique current social and political issues, with ‘toxic’ installations and sculptural forms.
Recently Mara participated in the Sustainability Prize 20, by creating an immersive installation transmitting a message to the contemporary audience extremely affected by the use of Pesticides. The phosphorescent green colour was chosen to be the key colour, which evokes concerns around the environment and public health. The message behind her work is very clear and effective; it warns the contemporary audience to the serious issues lived today.
