Kama Lam's practice aims to make socially critical photography. As a model herself, the use of juxtaposing the neat and official look of commercial photography, that puts on beauty makeup as a form of conceptual art. Challenging beauty standard and concepts in mass culture. Kama's works embrace aspects of psychoanalysis, the languages of communication, ethnic stereotypes and feminist theory.
Cindy Sherman is one of the artist that inspired Kama the most. Especially the exclusively of photographic self-portraits, portraying herself in many altered settings and as numerous imagined characters.
